On July 16, Monday in 2007 an earthquake hit the offshore of Japan. Which caused a considerable amount of damage and disasters for everyone. The earthquake lasted for about 4 minutes which was followed up by an aftershock with the magnitude of 4.0. The aftershock came light but, shook more the 70 times. However, this was then followed by a very small tsunami which did not last for long, but gratefully it did not cause harm to anyone or anything. The tsunami occurred, due to the sea bottom deformation which cause the Niigata Chuetsu Oki earthquake. The earthquake caused a great amount of destruction which caused, most of the deaths from people beings stuck under collapsed houses. It was reported that they only found 11 people dead, 1,339 injured, and approximately 1,100 houses destroyed. This caused economic to pay around 5 billion which is devastating.
Governments actions towards earthqauke disaster.
Japan’s response to the earthquake was fast and effective. The Government did all they can as he gathered and sent the army and navy to immediately assist people who are stuck under house that have fallen down. They also sent extra emergency teams who helped with the rescue, plus providing people who lost there house with food and water, etc. The Government also provided them with ‘emergency shelters’ which they helped them if they were injured from the earthquake and also gave out exactly 2,100 blankets. There were 100 emergency shelters set up in Niigata and all of them had around 10,000 people in them.

Magnitude

As the earthquake was recorded to be 6.6 by using the teleseismic data, it came very strong and fast making areas of the community quickly collapsing down. There was also an estimated magnitude recorded, which came 6.7 using the regional Japanese data. It was then lead minutes later by a deep magnitude of 6.8 which caused people to be dangerously injured and even more houses to be destroyed with nothing left out of it. The first event was caused by deformation which is connected with the boarder between the Amur plate and the Okhotsk plate. The second shake, although was the outcome of defect related with the subducted Pacific Plate. The seismic waves associated with superficial quakes which can reach the surface without the loosing energy and this produces a stronger shaking with even more harmful damages.
What the earthquake effected
The earthquake did not just cause injured and destroyed houses but, also it caused the local ‘Nuclear power plant’ to catch fire which was then quickly put out. In the ‘Nuclear power plant’, the earthquake didn’t just make the fire worse but, the reason why the fire came was because when the ground was shaking it caused a leak of radioactive gases which caused the fire to start. The earthquake also lead to Toyota and Honda to shut down for two weeks as it damaged the place and completely destroyed more than 120,000 cars, which in this case caused them an extreme financial problem. The Government wasn’t helping them out that much, but the Japanese Government did what he can that can that will suit him as well as please them.
